Origins

Alyssa Carter is a proud Hungarian, raised in San Jose, CA. With a strong background in musical theater and improv, she’s always had the entertainment bug. Alyssa got her start assisting in various CSA casting offices after moving to Los Angeles in 2007. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production from California State University Northridge, she found herself diving into various forms of the freelance film industry, mainly in assistant directing. For the past eight years, she has worked as a short-form Creative Producer for digital companies such as Maker Studios, Disney Plus, and TubeScience.

Adjacent to her digital work, Alyssa has written, directed, and produced several short films, music videos, and commercials. Her short musical film, SING ABOUT IT won “Best Comedy” by the Subversive Cinema Society in 2016. Her one-take short film, GRAPES won “Best Choreography,” as well as a “Best Female Filmmaker” nomination in 2017. Her short film, LAS 17 was officially selected into 10 film festivals between 2018-2019, including the Oscar qualifying Cinequest Film Festival. The short was awarded “Best Short Film” by the NSAEN Film Festival 2018, and “Best Micro Short” by the United Latino Film Festival 2019.

Alyssa produced and co-directed two short films in 2021. WEATHER OR NOT, an adaptation of a David Sedaris essay, and TRAPPED IN MOTION, the true story of an Asian American woman’s experience of sexual assault on a San Francisco transit. Since September 2022, Alyssa has been conducting interviews for her first feature-length documentary film, TERMS, a collection of miscarriage stories that addresses sex education, healthcare, current policy, grief, and healing.

Alyssa looks forward to continuing her love of storytelling in this new era of female filmmakers.
